About this deal

Your choice of panel is indicated by a glazier token, and you can only place glass into the panel your glazier is currently working on, or a panel to the RIGHT of that panel. Any player can decide to draft Panes from the center on their turn (eventually it may be your only option). These Pane Pieces will determine which of the five colours of Pane Pieces will give bonus victory points in each of the six rounds of the game. So points can be swingy, sometimes you will score one point for finishing an entire window, other times you can score upwards of 15 points, it’s all about your planning and knowing when to finish and went to take the right color tiles to do so.

It is this artwork that was captured in the original Azul game using tiles and has been carried through to the glass of the follow-up game, Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra. Your decisions are often skewed by what you think your rivals are trying to do, and the game offers a couple of end game bonus variants that increase replayability – in addition to the variability of your window design and the way tiles come out of the bag. Other fearless seafarers have also landed on the shores of Catan: the race to settle the island has begun! I am so glad to say that Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra remains faithful to the original Azul, while meaningfully building upon it.I would be interested to see what people who came across Stained Glass of Sintra before Azul thought after they had played. Each player chooses a colour and takes the appropriate Player Board together with the 8 Pattern Strips. Your work on the royal palace of Evora is complete and now you and one to three other players (2-4 total) have been asked to adorn the windows of the chapel of the Palace of Sintra in Portugal. This can also create incentives to force a player to take too many tiles of one color by pushing the color they need to the middle of the table.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Play progresses in a very similar fashion to how I imagine play in Azul progresses; at the very least, parts of it look very similar and the tile mechanics are something Azul players will find very familiar. Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra maintains some of the core tile drafting mechanisms of Azul, but introduces new tile laying techniques and a new theme.

If the round color was Yellow, then I would earn an additional 4 points (the strip had 4 Yellow and 1 Blue. You’ll also need to plan ahead carefully to ensure you are getting the most points out of every column you complete, timing it to complete on the right turn for bonus points and also trying to make the most of gaining extra points for columns already completed. You need to pass, and you need to have others need those pieces or have planned worse than you and have to take those pieces. Other times you may want to because it will force your opponent to draft something that they may not want, like when they rested right before you and they must draft Panes. So when you take glass from a factory or from the center, you take all of that specific color from that specific spot.
