About this deal

His is a refreshingly bleak vision this is not a land ripe for adventurous tourists, but one moving ever closer to environmental catastrophe. S., leaving Chicago and going through Montana to Seattle, down the Oregon coastline to Monterey Bay, across the desert (stopping at Vegas for a day, which was of course surreal in comparison with everything else), through the Rockies and across the Great Plains back home. Not only is the story intriguing for kids but it also has a lovely environmental message about the future of the mountains. I flush with feeling, moved beyond my comprehension, and once again, the warm tears freeze upon my face. These constantly changing characters are often unreliable and only one man accompanies our author throughout the whole trip.

He was invited along by field biologist George Schaller on his expedition to study Himalayan Blue Sheep--and perhaps catch a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard. And he makes it with a friend, crusty field biologist George Schaller, who is there to study Himalayan Blue Sheep. While it's nice to be appreciated and memorialized in this way, perhaps studying medicine or public health instead of The Way would provide more tangible benefits to children like this. A massive old growth tree fell in Redwoods National Forest not a hundred feet from our tent, a victim of the worst drought in anyone's memory. Oleg and Irina Loginov are fighting to save the snow leopard in Kazakhstan and this book is photographic journey through snow leopard habitat and the challenges they face in their range countries.Indicating his twisted legs without a trace of self-pity or bitterness, as if they belonged to all of us, he casts his arms wide to the sky and the snow mountains, the high sun and dancing sheep, and cries, 'Of course I am happy here! I first read The Snow Leopard about 30 winters ago, when I was a graduate student at the University of Maryland.

The book is about a delightful threesome of child heroes who battle the villains of ‘Progress’ and ‘Development’ in the Himalayas. The author is currently collecting the necessary funds to cover printing costs via a campaign on Kickstarter. I understand that during the 60-70, associating drugs to eastern philosophy was a thing, but putting that in a book isn’t going to make me believe that the person is serious about learning (or even knows what their saying). In this tale the snow leopard protector seeks out a young girl to train in the wisdom of guardianship. But their true reason for being on this adventure is to capture a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard.

But even then, having slow-read it over the month of my trip, it has still taken me months to get to writing about it. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists it as a “threatened” species; it is estimated that fewer than 10,000 snow leopards survive in the wild, and their numbers have been steadily reduced by poaching and habitat loss. a wild, laughing yelp, quite unlike anything I have ever heard, which echoes eerily off the walls of the cold canyon. The drawings are lovely and the story an inspiring one about young people and caring for their environment. A pilgrimage, of sorts, for me, anyway, partly spiritual as much as getting in touch with natural beauty and friends along the way.
