About this deal

the characters are very well developed in such a short amount of time and i felt myself being fully engaged and invested in the story every time i watched/read it. However because at the time the production was not local and I was eager to discover the mystery I purchased the script. I also think about people in my own life who are similar to the character of Ben and mash it all up together.

The couple hosts a dinner party for Lauren, an old university friend of Sam's, and Ben, her new boyfriend who has a belief in the supernatural. I was also drawn to the play as it’s a ghost story and a thriller, which is a genre I’ve never done before. In one of the most chilling scenes, absolutely nothing happens yet the grand old room is electric with the fear of expectation". Spine-chilling, funny and scary, Danny Robins' play 2:22 was premiered at the Noël Coward Theatre in London's West End in August 2021, directed by Matthew Dunster, and starring Lily Allen, Julia Chan, Hadley Fraser and Jake Wood. An argument with Sam about a window which appears to open itself leads to a confession from an exhausted Jen that she has heard ghostly footsteps in the baby’s nursery and the sound of a man crying at the same time each night (you guessed it, 2:22 am) since Sam has been away. But his arrogant rationalism feels like a betrayal to Jenny, who resents living in a scary house she had reservations about from the start. The two argue, and tensions arise further when the group discover Phoebe's teddy bear in the bathroom drenched in white spirit.

Normally, that wouldn't bother me, but it feels very excessive with how many f-bombs and other such choices are littered through a single sentence, let alone the whole play. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. With a brilliant sense of mounting dread and just the right number of jump-scares, Danny Robins' new ghost story is a slick, chilling romp of a play. Norwich Theatre Royal, Playhouse and Stage Two are part of Norwich Theatre, the operating name of Theatre Royal (Norwich) Trust Limited. It seems a long way from the audience, and the gaps at the sides are disconcerting; this is another production that would ideally have been staged at the King’s.
