About this deal

As new UK NHS Trusts or relevant Health Authorities adopt the DadPad® App, more locations will appear, as will new up-to-date information and features such as explanatory animations and videos. The DadPad® - An essential guide for new dads, supporting new families in working together for their babies. Stoke-on-Trent City Council has worked with the NHS Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust and DadPad to launch the easy-to-use, freely downloadable resource for new dads and dads-to-be.

The DadPad is best utilised as early as possible during pregnancy, around birth and beyond, and provides guidance for babies and children up to the age of two. This will give you time to put your pack to good use and we’re sure you’ll have plenty to keep you busy before then! All texts will be responded to by a public health nurse (health visitor/school nurse) within 24 hours.Although we hope that this DadPad will help you and your family with some of the questions and problems that may arise over the coming weeks, always remember that, if you're unsure about anything to do with your baby’s health, you should contact your midwife, health visitor or GP. Cllr Dave Evans, cabinet member for children and young people said: “As a city council, our aim is to provide the best start in life for all children in the city and the DadPad can help with this.

By building confidence, helping dads engage with their baby’s development and be a supportive co-parent the DadPad can help children and families across the city.Crucially, the app provides dads with guidance on how to support and seek help (when required) for their partners and themselves as they adjust to their new roles. There are also details of local support groups for new dads and sources of help available in Kent and Medway. Rowena added: 'Alongside the DadPad app there is a hard copy DadPad Neonatal book that will support dads when their baby is admitted, planned or unplanned, to the neonatal unit.

The DadPad] is about Dads being prepared for some of that tension and strain of being a new parent, but without being overwhelmed and knowing that it’s not just mums who can access the help and advice that’s available, even if they don’t live with their partner.

DadPad is designed to reduce anxiety in a number of ways, for example, by helping dads gain confidence by getting involved with their baby’s care, as well as learning how to create a strong bond and build stronger family relationships. Written by health professionals, DadPad is already up and running in other areas of the UK, and each area has content edited and amended to be bespoke to local needs, including details of nearby support groups and services.

Remember, too, that the health visitor service is not only for Mum, but for Dad as well, even if you're not all living together. We are delighted to be able to launch this resource for dads and dads-to-be across the Lancashire and South Cumbria area. Rowena Chilton, Head of Midwifery at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, said: 'It’s fantastic news that DadPad has launched across our maternity services. It also provides guidance on how to support and seek help for your partner and yourself as you adjust to your new roles. It is designed to reduce your anxieties, create a strong bond and healthy attachment with your baby, build stronger family relationships and recognise when you or your partner might need to get help for your mental health. You can give your feedback at any time, but ideally we’d like to hear from you from 3-4 months after the birth of your baby. The Cornish and Scillonian themed ‘Dad Pad’ recognises the important role dads play in bringing up their children and supporting mum. We strongly recommend taking appropriate action to ensure your safety when engaging with any of the organisations, groups, events or services listed.
