About this deal

Penultimate track "You've Got It Bad" was another single, and is a great Britpop song before the nearly eight minutes of closing track "Get Away", the longest track here. I've come late to the Ocean Colour Scene party but after seeing them headline Weyfest this summer I'm now a committed convert.

In March 2011, the band released a 15th anniversary special edition of their 1996 hit album Moseley Shoals. Listening to the opening bars of "40 Past Midnight" I can't help think of the Rolling Stones' "Let's Spend the Night Together", helped by Fowler channelling his inner Jagger. Perhaps that's why Fowler--one of Britain's most under-recognised lyricists --sounds like a man with nothing to lose on "The Circle" and the aching "It's My Shadow".But while there are similarities there is a complexity to OCS's sound that's all their own, and it's at this point that I realise that that's where the strengths of this album lie. The following year, in 2016, the band announced several special concerts around the UK to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1996 hit album Moseley Shoals. But between their debut and their second album, 1996's Moseley Shoals, a strange thing happened -- the band was taken under the wings of two of Britain's biggest pop stars, Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher. The Downstream" is a fabulous slow bluesy ballad, another that's in late sixties Stones territory with Simon Fowler again channelling his Jagger, leaving the singles aside this is probably my favourite track, although the knob-twiddling with which it ends is an unnecessary indulgence.

In 2006 the band released a live acoustic album, Live at the Jam House, which consisted of fifteen live tracks and also contained four new songs in "Great Man in Waiting", "The Word", "Still Trying" and "Matilda's England". A low-key start to their career was boosted by two things – the endorsement of two of Britain’s biggest pop stars – Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher, and the exposure given to the first single, “The Riverboat Song”, by Chris Evans on his hit TV show TFI Friday. They also played at V-festival where Inbetweeners actor James Buckley performed "The Circle" with them in Chelmsford and at The Electric Picnic Festival in Stradbally, Ireland. In May, a follow-up vinyl set was released, covering the three studio albums released between 1999-2003.

A companion vinyl box set was also released, covering their first three studio albums from 1992–1997. VG/EX means that the item's sleeve is in Very Good condition and the disc is in Excellent condition. When their record label was swallowed up by larger company Phonogram their eponymous début album was remixed, against the band's wishes, to fit in with the Baggy/indie-dance musical trend of the time. Recently on a lads'n'dads camping trip and safe to say all the dads welcomed this album being played and even some of the lads showed an interest, plenty of (bad) singing around the fire. Records that aren't in picture sleeves will either be in a company sleeve or a generic plain sleeve. In December 2012, the band announced the forthcoming release of their tenth studio album, Painting, which was released on 11 February 2013.

Having not previously been familiar with OCS, somehow they and much of the late '90s and early noughties passed me by, ahead of the fest' I broke one of my cardinal rules and bought their best of package "Songs For The Front Row" as a crammer, but now I'm back for more and have purchased not just their breakthrough album "Moseley Shoals" but also its successor "Marchin Already".

In 1998 they headlined their own arena tour in support of Marchin' Already and played three sold out nights at Stirling Castle, Scotland. Despite the emotionally draining lyrics of next up "One for the Road" at its core it's a fun infectious dance number.
