Red wine, on the other hand, contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties thought to be beneficial in small quantities for those living with IBD. Wine contains varying amounts of sugar — drinking drier varieties, which have less sugar, may limit negative effects on IBD symptoms. However, many questions remain about the effect of red wine on biologic drugs and the microbiome. Water, Glucose Syrup, Acid (Citric Acid), Acidity Regulators (Sodium Citrate, Calcium Hydroxide), Flavouring, Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid), Stabiliser (Acacia Gum), Sweeteners (Acesulfame K, Sucralose), Vitamins (Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, B6, B12), Colour (Beta Carotene) While the ingredients vary somewhat from one drink to another, those of the Lucozade Original Energy were listed as follows in 2013: carbonated water, glucose syrup (25%), citric acid (E330), lactic acid (E270), flavouring (unspecified), preservatives ( potassium sorbate, sodium bisulphite (E-222)), caffeine, antioxidant ( ascorbic acid), colour ( sunset yellow (E110), Ponceau 4R). After the reformulation to lower sugar in 2017, and another reformulation in 2023, Lucozade Original contains the sweeteners sucralose and acesulfame K. Even decaffeinated coffee has some caffeine — about 2 mg in a cup. However, nearly all herbal teas, such as chamomile, and beverages such as root beer, cream soda, and lemon-lime soda usually have no caffeine.
In May 2016, Liverpool City Council ran a "name-and-shame campaign" entitled "Is your child’s sweet tooth harming their health?". The short-lived campaign claimed that Lucozade was "the worst offender", containing 62 grams of sugar in a 500 ml bottle, followed by Coca-Cola with 54 grams. Posters for the campaign were displayed in hospitals for a time. [10]

Overconsumption of sugar-sweetened beverages like Lucozade which contain a high glycemic index is associated with chronic kidney disease and diabetes.
Taurine is important to many of the body’s metabolic processes and helps improve cardiovascular health. It’s also thought to have antioxidant properties. This amino acid occurs naturally in meat, fish and dairy products. There isn’t much consensus as to the positive effects of taurine, though some studies suggest it improves athletic performance, as well as mental performance when consumed alongside caffeine. Because urine is clearing waste from the blood which has circulated right around the body, a change in urine colour can indicate a problem in various organs and systems.

At best, energy drinks can help you feel more awake, giving you a boost after consumption. However, feeling energised and feeling focused are two different things.

BCAAs, or branched-chain amino acids, are named for their branching chemical structure. The body cannot synthesise BCAAs, so they must be taken in as part of your diet or in supplementary form. They’re important for muscle and skeletal growth and are thought to improve athletic performance and mental stimulation, although further study is needed to prove the latter claims. Depending on the line and bottle size, Lucozade drinks range from 8 kcal (Zero drinks) to 176 kcal (Energy drinks).
Dehydration can darken urine; this may be due to excessive fluid loss from sweating during exercise or with a fever or from inadequate fluid intake. These days, there's an entire line of Lucozade beverages, including Lucozade Energy, Lucozade Zero, Lucozade Sport, and Lucozade Alert. Aside from the original flavour, others have included orange, wild cherry, pink lemonade, apple blast, strawberry, raspberry ripple, Caribbean crush, Brazilian mango and mandarin, citrus chill, and watermelon and strawberry. Where Was Lucozade Invented – and What Was it Originally Made For? Niacin or vitamin B3 is widely beneficial for lowering cholesterol. Recent studies also suggest the significant potential in B3 for treating Alzheimer’s and for memory and learning improvement in cases of dementia. Ultimately, it may be a good idea to minimize drinking caffeinated beverages. Try to replace coffee with less-caffeinated teas, and substitute caffeinated colas with caffeine-free products. Monitor your IBD symptoms after consuming caffeine, and report any worsened symptoms or an ulcerative colitis flare to your doctor. Alcoholic Drinks It’s worth noting that the World Health Organization recommends limiting sugar intake to no more than 50 grams per day, or ideally less than 25 grams per day. This means that consuming one of the Lucozade drinks would account for a significant portion of the recommended daily sugar intake. While it may not exceed the upper limit, it’s important to be mindful of your overall sugar consumption and consider lower sugar alternatives to help reduce your sugar intake.You may wonder why Lucozade drinks are so rich in vitamin B, and research has indeed proved its numerous positive effects which are closely related to pre and post-exercise nourishment: Due to the presence of caffeine and artificial sweeteners in other Lucozade products, they are not recommended during pregnancy as well as the breastfeeding period. Is Lucozade fattening? Although the Zero range is based on a sugar-free formula, artificial sweeteners are no less of a hazard to human health and longevity.
